About

Handmade Sustainable products

We create handmade products with recycled fabric and other materials that are quality ensured with an aim to reduce the huge amount of waste we have - especially in the fashion industry. Most of the products are unique and limited edition since they are not mass-produced.

Moreover, we are trying to give an opportunity to immigrant women (and men) who were not a "good match" in our high-standard working style. We focus on skills rather than a degree.

Recycle & Reuse

Background
We live in a high-consumption world, where we buy so much that we don't even need. Our houses are so full that we don't have enough space to store them. The worst part is that we don't even remember most of what we own. This takes up physical and mental space in our lives.

Norway is one of the largest consumption counties in the world. This large consumer-based habit has led to plenty of waste - especially in the clothes and fashion industry. This applies not only to Norway but the whole world!

Let’s do it together!
This inspired me to take some tiny actions and work on some ideas. I love to create and reuse stuff for myself and decided to bring it outside my craft room and into the world. There are many wonderful people who care about the environment and are willing to do something about it. There are also many guidelines and tips that can help us to reduce our waste and “up-cycle”. However, not everyone has the capacity nor the correct skills to recreate their old belongings. In many cases, the necessary tools are too expensive. There are also amazing organizations like @færbrik that teach you to sew your own clothes. However, as I mentioned not all of us are able nor have the interest to invest our time in such projects.

The aim of Crafting Kaur is to do that work so the only thing you need to do is to support by purchasing the items made by recycling old stuff!

For each CK item you buy - you help the world reduce excess waste and contribute to taking care of mother earth!

Retired-Working-Soul
History
It is tough being a retired-brown-foreigner-woman in this highly educated and well-developed country. This woman is one of many who struggle to find a decent job and earn their own money to make them feel independent. She was an established tailor and a respected-tailoring instructor back in the country where she was born. After she moved to Norway with her family - she struggled to find a decent job based on her skills and was met with rejection everywhere. She gave up her dreams and started working as a cleaner and was extremely low-paid. She was working until she got injured in an accident that left her physically unable to work. She tried for several years but was rejected everywhere due to her physical condition and other factors like; the language barrier, lack of a diploma or a higher degree, and last but least she was told that she was too old to get a new job. After some years she got retired and has since been living as a pensioner with minimum wage.

Re-gaining the faith
This wonderful woman inspired me with another idea. With her wonderful tailoring skills, she was a perfect match for fabric recycling and making some amazing products. She was recruited into CK and now is now in charge of the fabric and weaving area.

The goal for the future is to support other men and women in similar situations and help them use their skills for a good cause.

By purchasing at CK store, you help this woman and hopefully many more in the future give a purpose in their life again.
